Dr John DeanSexual Physician President, International Society for Sexual Medicine 2008-2010
Dr John Dean is a Sexual Physician, working in the UK National Health Service in Devon, and in private practice in both Devon and at The London Clinic, Harley Street, London. He provides care for men and women with concerns about all aspects of sexuality, sexual function and gender. He was born in London, educated at Dulwich College and graduated from The Middlesex Hospital Medical School, University of London, in 1981. He originally trained as a Family Physician, during which period he developed an interest in sexology; he has worked in sex and relationship therapy since 1984. He has worked exclusively in the field of Sexual Medicine since 1995. His clinical interests include disorders of desire in men and women, sexual endocrinology, premature ejaculation, erectile dysfunction and gender identity disorders. His approach to both individual and couple care is holistic, paying appropriate attention to psychological, behavioural, relationship and cultural factors, as well as medical factors. He has been involved in pharmaceutical development for many years and advises several companies developing treatments for both men and women. Around one-third of Dr Dean’s time is spent on academic Sexual Medicine. He was President of the International Society for Sexual Medicine from 2008 to 2010; he is currently Professor Invitat at the Victor Babes University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Timisoara, Romania, Director of Education for the European Society for Sexual Medicine, and Director of its European School of Sexual Medicine. He completed a 5-year term as Secretary-General of the European Society for Sexual Medicine in 2007. Dr Dean is a frequent invited speaker at national and international Sexual Medicine meetings. He is an active clinical researcher, has published 80 papers on Sexual Medicine subjects in peer-reviewed journals and is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Sexual Medicine. |
